TEMAZCAL

A temazcal is a traditional Mesoamerican sweat lodge ceremony that has been practiced for centuries, particularly in Mexico and Central America. The word comes from Nahuatl, meaning "house of heat," and the ceremony takes place in a dome-shaped structure made of stone or clay. Inside, hot stones are placed in the center and medicinal herbs are added to create therapeutic steam, while participants sit in a circle. The ceremony is led by a temazcalero (ritual guide) and serves both physical healing purposes, like detoxification and muscle relaxation, and spiritual purposes, including purification and connection with natural elements. The dome shape symbolizes the mother's womb, and the entire experience is meant to represent a spiritual rebirth through the healing power of heat, steam, and ritual.
